We typically arrive at the base of Mt. Fuji around 10-11am (depending on your tour type). After milling about for a little bit and having a morning briefing on the hike, we start hiking at around 10:45am or 12pm.
The goal on the first day is to hike from the Subashiri 5th station located at 2000m (6,000ft) to our mountain hut. The hike takes about 6 hours at a very relaxed pace.
We start in the hot and humid forest and end in a very crisp and usually windy alpine slope. As the mountain hut faces east, the setting sun behind Fuji creates a long and beautifully symmetrical shadow across the sea of clouds below.
